Day 2 – The Olympic capitol

Right next to the hotel is one of Oslo’s main attractions, the ski arena Holmenkollen, which was the host of the 1952 winter Olympics and serve as the starting point for our tour. We embark on the magnificent network of trails from Holmenkollen, which serves as one of the most popular enduro-sites in Oslo. For the uphill we alternate between biking and taking the tram, and we will enjoy magnificent views, trails and historical sites throughout a day packed with adventure.

Optional fjord cruise on the Oslo fjord in the evening.

Distance – 24 km
700 hm climb – 700 hm descent (up to 500 hm climb extra without the tram)

Day 3 – The urban life

From Holmenkollen we choose one of the thrilling descents towards the city, before we jump on the tram and head over to another of Oslo’s beautiful mtb-spots. In the area called Lillomarka there is a wide variety of trails in the spruce forest which is famous for this area. After enjoying the views and trails we will indulge ourselves with some urban life and an afterbike at one of the unique local brewpubs in Oslo. After the afterbike we will be picked up by our driver who will transport us to our next destination, Alvdal. Drivetime approx 4 hours.

Optional guided city tour in Oslo prior to departure to Alvdal.

Distance – 26 km
700 hm climb – 700 hm descent (up to 500 hm climb extra without the tram)

Day 4 – The views

In Alvdal we will be lodged at Urørt lodge, a family farm which serves as the hub for mountain biking in Alvdal. On our first day in Alvdal we will be transported to Mt. Tron, where we will be shuttled up to a mountain plateau on Norway’s second highest lying mountain road. From the plateau we have 800 vertical meters of fantastic singletrack straight down to the valley, and we will choose the best and finest trails on our way down.

Distance – 24 km
600 hm climb – 1000 hm descent (optional 600 hm extra climb to the trailhead)

Day 5 – The summer farms

After a solid breakfast we will embark on the planned route of the day. We will follow the old trails from the historic mines in the area, and specifically the trail of the cableway connecting the mines with the railway in Alvdal. Along the way we will pass some of the most genuine summer farms in Norway. We finish our tour with a refreshingly fun descent from the top of the old cableway and down to our lodging at Kvebergsøya farm hotel – a very unique place in the Norwegian mountains.

Distance: 30 km
750 hm climb – 1000 hm descent (optional 400 hm extra climb to the trailhead)

Day 6 – The national park

Our singletrack of the day literally starts at our doorstep. We will follow the singletrack in the direction of Rondane National Park, and during our tour we will enjoy two beautiful descents surrounded by the scenic mountains of Rondane. At the end of our last descent we will be picked up and transported along the National Scenic Route Rondane to our lodging at Spidsbergseter Resort Rondane. Upon arrival you can enjoy a relaxing swim at Karlsvogna wellness area before we get a delicious dinner made from local produce.

Distance: 20
750 hm climb – 550 hm descent

Day 7 – The Olympic downhill

For our last day on the bike we will enjoy the trails and descents surrounding the site for downhill skiing during the Lillehammer Olympics. After some well earned rest and restitution at Spidsbergseter Resort Rondane we get back on our bikes to explore another unique area for mountain biking, praticularly because of the combination of singletracks above and below the treeline. At the end of the day we finish with a spectacular trail down to the center of Ringebu. At the end of our ride we will be transported back to Spidsbergseter Resort and our farewell-dinner.

Distance: 30 km

Day 8 – Departure

The area

Mountain biking in Alvdal, Folldal, and Tynset

Most of our tours are hosted in the beautiful mountain landscape neighboring Rondane National Park. The mountain biking in Alvdal, Folldal and Tynset is known for its unique combination of trails above and below the tree line. The mountains in the area are almost hand tailored for mountain biking, with summits that are steep enough for fantastic descents, but also mellow enough so you don’t have to push your bike too often. It is one of the driest areas in Norway, well protected from western low pressures by the mountain regions of Rondane and Jotunheimen. This means mostly dry trails throughout the season!

In Alvdal you find Mt. Tron, with Norways highest mountain road all the way to the summit. This provides a unique starting point to a magnificent network of trails. The area is also famous for the mountain farms, spread all over the mountains in the region. Most of the trails we use for biking are either used as trails to the mountain farms, or to the old mines, which you also find scattered around the area. Both result in a unique network of trails in the mountains.

In 2019 we had the biggest Norwegian MTB-magazine on a visit, and spent a spectacular day in the mountains. See the full video here.

How to get there

Our tours are centrally located in southeastern Norway, only 3,5 hours from Oslo international airport.

On our tours double-rooom is the standard for almost all accommodation. On some mountain farms, huts or the like family rooms or rooms that sleep more than two might occur. If you want a single-room there might be some additional costs.

We recommend full suspension bikes on all of our tours. We also provide rental bikes, specially tailored for our tours.

At all times follow the instructions of your guide, and use the issued packing lists as reference to get the most out of your tour!
