Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival at Oslo airport, and we gather everyone before we start driving to our first destination – Hallingdal. The drive to Hallingdal is about 2,5 hours and we install ourselves at our accommodation and go through the plan for the week during the welcome dinner in the evening.
Day 2
After breakfast we hit the trails in Hallingdal. This is an area with a large selection of trails, both purpose built and natural trails. We ease into the week with some of the best trails in the area and enjoy our first day on the bike in Norway. Following the ride we start moving towards our first main destination – Sogndal which is about 2,5 hours drive from Hallingdal.
Day 3
Sogndal is the regional capital of the Sognefjord, and the mountain bike capital on the fjords. For the first day we will enjoy the loamy trails around Sogndal and Kaupanger which offer a magnificent combination of beautiful trails and fjord view.
Day 4
Following breakfast we get a transport up to the mountains and the goal of the day is the mountain of Vorfjellet. The ascent to Vorfjellet follows a magnificent trail, which rewards us with an amazing view at the top, and a thrilling descent which we link up with a trail that takes us all the way down to the fjord. Down by the fjord we will be transported back to our lodging and the last night in Sogndal for this tour.
Day 5
We have an early breakfast and go straight to Gubrandsdalen which will be our destination for epic rides on the way to Alvdal. The drive from Sogndal (approx 3,5 hours) will take us over the mountain pass at Sognefjellet, one of the most scenic roads in Norway. When we arrive in Gudbrandsdalen we will have a day of shuttle-based riding on some of the best natural trails Norway has to offer. When we are all out of energy from the riding we jump back in the van and finish with the last leg of the drive to Alvdal (approx 2,5 hours). We settle in at Urørt Lodge which will be our base for the rest of the tour.
Day 6
After a solid breakfast we will embark on the planned route of the day. We will follow the old trails from the historic mines in the area, and specifically the trail of the cableway connecting the mines with the railway in Alvdal. We finish our tour with a refreshingly fun descent from the top of the old cableway and down to our lodging at Urørt Lodge.
Day 7
After breakfast we will get a transport Mt. Tron, where we will be shuttled up to a mountain plateau at 1300 meters on Norway’s second highest lying mountain road. From the plateau we have 800 vertical meters of fantastic singletrack down to the valley floor, and we can pick and choose among some of the best mountain biking Norway has to offer. In the evening we enjoy our farewell dinner at the lodge and look back at a fantastic week in Norway.
Day 8
Transfer to the airport (approx 3 hours)
The area
Mountain biking in Sogndal
Sogndal is the mountainbike capital on the fjords. Due to its unique location, geograpy and topography, Sogndal offers supreme mountain biking. And to top it off, it probably offers some of the most scenic trails in Norway, with fjordviews, glaciers and alpine peaks. The riding is everything from loamy flow trails to ridgeline trails up in the alpine. If you want to combine fjords and mountain biking – Sogndal is the place to go!
Mountain biking in Alvdal, Tynset and Folldal
Most of our tours are hosted in the beautiful mountain landscape neighbouring Rondane national park. The mountain biking in Alvdal, Folldal and Tynset is known for it´s unique combination of trails above and below the tree line. The mountains in the area are almost hand tailored for mountain biking, with summits that are steep enough for fantastic descents, but also mellow enough so you don´t have to push your bike too often. It is one of the driest areas in Norway, well protected from western low pressures by the mountain regions of Rondane and Jotunheimen. This means mostly dry trails throughout the season!
In Alvdal you find Mt. Tron, with Norway’s highest mountain road all the way to the summit. This provides a unique starting point to a magnificent network of trails. The area is also famous for the mountains farms, spread all around in the mountains of the region. Most of the trails we use for biking are either used as trails to the mountain farms, or to the old mines, which you also find scattered around in the area. Both result in a unique network of trails in the mountains.
