Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrival at Alvdal by train and check-in at your cosy lodging in central Alvdal. Our lodging for the night will be at the historic Steien Hotel, which is an old railway-hotel. After dinner you will meet your guides and we will run through the programme for the tour.

Day 2:
After breakfast we will get transport up towards Mt. Tron which summits at 1666 meters. We will enjoy a scenic and beautiful warm-up hike on some of the trails at Mt. Tron before we hike on a nice and mellow trail back down to Steien Hotel. Along the way we will tell you about the exciting history of Mt Tron, including the mining-history, an entrepreneurial deed and an Indian philosopher.

Time: 3 – 4 hours

Day 3:
After a solid breakfast you will embark on the planned route of the day. You will be transported to the trailhead, in a scenic valley with plenty of summer farms. From there you follow the route through to the mountains to your base for the next two nights, Breisjøseter mountain lodge. After a delicious 3-course meal from local produce you can get a good night sleep and get ready for the next day.

Elevation: 250 meters climb – 200 meters descent
Time: 4 – 5 hours

Day 4:
We will spend the day in the pristine mountains and the realm of the famous Norwegian reindeer. All the way we will enjoy the view of the scenic mountains covered in lichen. If weather and conditions allow we will aim for the summit of the highest mountain in Alvdal, Sølnkletten. At the end of the day we will have a truly unique experience, a 12-course dinner in the middle of the mountains!

Time: 4 – 5 hours

Day 5:
After some well earned rest and restitution the next stage will take you to Rondane National Park, and a night in the scenic Grimsdalen. At the top of a pretty long climb from Breisjøseter you will find it easy to enjoy your rest with the view of the mountains of Rondane and the beautiful river Atna, as it winds its way down through the valley below. At the end of the trail you will be picked up and transported to Grimsdalshytta and enjoy a three-course meal and some relaxation.

Elevation: 650 meters climb – 700 meters descent
Time: 6 – 7 hours

Day 6:
From Grimsdalshytta you will head north into the kingdom of the Musk ox. Along the way you will be guided by one of Norway’s signature mountains, Snøhetta, as it looms in front of us for the duration of the tour. Our lodging for the night will be Hjerkinn Fjellstue, which has hosted travellers in the mountains for more than 1200 years!

Day 7:
We head out in the mountains and experience the muskox in it’s natural habitat. Hjerkinn is one of the few places in the world where you can experience these magnificent animals, and on a guided tour you are just about guaranteed to see them. After collecting some epic snapshots of the muskox, we head back to our historic lodging at Kongsvold and a farewell-dinner in the evening.
