With Rondane National Park as your backdrop, you will follow the scenic mountain route from Østerdalen to Gudbrandsdalen. Along the way you will experience some of the best hiking and mountain culture that Norway has to offer.

Day 1:
Arrival at Alvdal by train and check-in at your cosy lodging in central Alvdal. Alvdal is a mountain town and famous due to its well-preserved city centre which was built together with the railway. Our lodging for the night will be at the historic Steien Hotel, which is an old railway-hotel. After dinner you will meet your guides and we will run through the programme for the tour.

Day 2:
After breakfast we will get transport up towards Mt. Tron which summits at 1666 meters. We will enjoy a scenic and beautiful warm-up hike on some of the trails at Mt. Tron before we hike on a nice and mellow trail back down to Steien Hotel. Along the way we will tell you about the exciting history of Mt Tron, including the mining-history, an entrepreneurial deed and an Indian philosopher.

Day 3:
After a solid breakfast you will embark on the planned route of the day. You will be transported to the trailhead, in a scenic valley jampacked with summer farms. From there you follow the old trails from the historic mines in the area, and specifically the trail of the cableway connecting the mines with the railway in Alvdal. The tour ends with a fabulous view of Rondane National Park from the top of the old cableway before the descent to the lodging at Kvebergsøya farm hotel. After a delicious 3-course meal from local produce you can get a good night sleep and get ready for the next day.

Day 4:
Our trail of the day literally starts at our doorstep. We will follow the trail in the direction of Rondane National Park, through pristine mountains, in the realm of the famous Norwegian reindeer. All the way we will enjoy the view of the scenic mountains of Rondane. At the end of our last descent we will be picked up and transported to the cosy mountain lodge at Dørålseter. Located right in the middle of Rondane National Park.

Time: 6 – 7 hours

Day 5:
After some well earned rest and restitution the next stage will take you through Rondane National Park, all the way to the scenic Grimsdalen. In between two pretty long climbs you will find it easy to enjoy your rest along the beautiful river Grimse, as it winds its way down the valley. Upon arrival at Grimsdalshytta you can enjoy a three-course meal and some relaxation.

Day 6:
From Grimsdalshytta you will head north into the kingdom of the Musk ox. Along the way you will be guided by one of Norway’s signature mountains, Snøhetta, as it looms in front of us for the duration of the tour. Our lodging for the night will be Hjerkinn Fjellstue, which has hosted travellers in the mountains for more than 1200 years!

Time: 6 – 7 hours

Day 7:
We head out in the mountains and experience the muskox in it’s natural habitat. Hjerkinn is one of the few places in the world where you can experience these magnificent animals, and on a guided tour you are just about guaranteed to see them. After collecting some epic snapshots of the muskox, we head back to our lodging at Hjerkinn Fjellstue.
